WATCH: Ross-shire schools urged to join Energy Sparks initiative to help their reduce carbon footprint and play a part tackling the climate emergency with support from Highland Council

PUPILS in Ross-shire are being encouraged to help reduce their schools reduce their carbon footprints by working with a sustainability charity.

Highland Council is working with Energy Sparks to offer schools access to an online analysis tool.

The energy education programme supports primary and secondary pupils, staff and the wider school community to reduce their school’s carbon emissions "and make a real contribution to addressing the climate emergency".

Monday of this coming week marks the start of Energy Saving Week.

The council is encouraging schools to engage with the ‘Get Energised to save electricity with Energy Sparks’ campaign.

The charity has collaborated with Green Impact to put together ten activities which will help participants get to grips with basis data analysis and behavioural change and take the first steps to lowering their carbon footprint.

The council's team has put together a short video which gives you more information about Energy Sparks and the campaign.

Fourteen schools have already signed up and are aving electricity.

To join Energy Sparks contact carbonclever@highland.gov.uk to confirm your interest, providing the school name and contact details for the staff member to be your Energy Champion.
