PASSENGERS on a train passing through an Easter Ross town were delighted with an unanticipated welcome from local children.

The pupils from primary schools in and around Invergordon were taking part in a project centred around the town's mural trail.

They were told the background story to the poignant Long Goodbye mural which dominates the space.

It depicts the departure for France of 4th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, their action at St Valery in 1940 to delay the German advance and the departure of prisoners to a German POW camp.

The flag waving children were still in the station when a passing southbound train made a stop in Invergordon and took the opportunity of welcoming delighted passengers.

The Invergordon Off the Wall project is currently exploring the possibility of adding to the mural trail and is seeking public feedback as well as exploring funding sources.

Its mural trail is now being promoted as a must-see on the NC500 which has been credited with boosting the Highland economy to the tune of over £22m a year.
