WATCH: Daughter’s hat-trick tribute to dad in Tain football memorial match
A crowd of over 200 descended upon the Links playing fields in Tain on Sunday to pay tribute to two fondly remembered servants.
In a special exhibition match, Tain footballers young and old took to the field in memory of former player Garry Perks and ex-committee man Graham Macrae.

Families and close friends of both former Tain stalwarts were in attendance, as teams competed for two quaichs - the Graham Macrae Memorial Quaich and the Garry Louden Perks Memorial Trophy.
The match itself pitted summer amateur side Tain Thistle against a Legends XI selected by Steven Martin, a former team mate and close friend of Mr Perks, who died tragically in August 2019.
The Legends XI were adorned in a specially designed red football strip with the name ‘Perks’ printed on the back shoulders of each top.
Among the squad were several former teammates of the former Tain Thistle forward - as well as his 14-year-old daughter, Addison.
There was a mixture of cheers and tears of emotion when Addison scored the memorial side’s third goal of the game.
The young junior soccer player, who plays for Fuerza FC back home, went on to score a hat-trick in the game, helping her side to a 5-3 win.
Off the field, volunteers raised funds by selling raffle tickets and accepting donations in aid of the families’ chosen cause, Tain Thistle Football Club.
A total of over £1000 was raised on the day. After the match, teams and supporters convened at the St Duthus Hotel for refreshments and the presentation of the trophies.
A touching tribute from Steven Martin read: “A massive thank you to everyone who came and supported us this afternoon, without you; players and spectators, the match would not have been possible.
“It’s never nice to lose friends and loved ones, but its something we have all experienced at one point in our lives, but it is hugely important that those of us left behind remember those who are no longer with us and celebrate their lives and achievements.
“So to Garry and Graham; your dedication and passion continue to inspire us. Your contributions to the club will forever be cherished and remembered.
“Here's to the memories we shared, the victories we celebrated, and the legacies that you've left behind, may your spirit live on in the hearts of all who love this beautiful game, here in Tain and beyond.”
