THE Met Office has issued two weather warnings for strong winds, starting in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

The warning for the Highlands kicks in at 4am on Saturday and runs through to 3pm the same day.

Another then starts at 6pm on Sunday running to noon on Monday, January 31.

Tomorrow morning's Yellow warning forecasts strong westerly winds bringing some disruption on Saturday to Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland and northern England.

This means that:

- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely

- Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer

- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

- Some short term loss of power and other services is possible

- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves

The Sunday warning says that strong winds will likely cause some travel disruption and generate some large and dangerous waves around the coasts.

This means:

- Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible

- Some roads and bridges may close

- Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

- Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto susceptible sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

The Yellow warning is the least severe of a three colour scale that rises through amber and red.

Yellow means severe weather is possible over the next few days and could affect you. It means that you should plan ahead, thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day to day activities.

The Met Office is monitoring the developing weather situation and Yellow means keep an eye on the latest forecast and be aware that the weather may change or worsen, leading to disruption of your plans in the next few days.
