VOLUNTEERS in Garve turned out over the weekend to give the local war memorial a much-needed spruce-up.

The Friends of Garve and District War Memorial group said it involved shredding shrubs and trees with 20-year growth, adding: "Hopefully when the new planters come it will all look smashing."

This year's service is on November 14 at 1pm and all are welcome. The Friends group invites those attending to refreshments in the village hall after the service by the Rev Gall of Contin Church of Scotland.
