A lunch club for over-70-year-olds is being set up in Invergordon – if volunteers can be found to help out.
Cromarty Firth councillors have taken up the initiative, and will be using ward funds to subsidise the initiative.
Councillor Maxine Morley-Smith said: "From August 31 there’s going to be a lunch club held in Invergordon Social Club every Tuesday and Friday for the over-70s.
"The Cromarty Firth Ward councillors’ ward discretionary fund is paying to subsidise this.
"There will be a small charge of £2.50 per day per person but this includes collection and delivery back home, main course and pudding plus a free game of bingo with prizes after lunch.
"It will be a social event. It will be from 1-2.30pm each Tuesday and Friday."
The club, which will serve up lunch to 30 people, needs volunteers to help provide the service.
Cllr Morley-Smith continued: "We need volunteers to collect and return the elderly people home and three people to assist in the kitchen from noon-2pm for both days. Without volunteers to pick up we cannot transport them. Even if you can do one day it’s fine.
"We also need names and addresses as well as contact numbers for people who would like to use the service. It will be first come first served basis."
She added: "We used to hold these lunch clubs years ago and they were very popular.
"This is also to get people out socialising after the pandemic. They need to mix. If it’s successful we may offer it in other places and more days as long as we can find funding."
