MSP Kate Forbes made the plea after joining a small army of volunteers at the charity’s Highland headquarters to help them add the finishing touches to some of the boxes heading overseas this Christmas.

Since 1993, more than two million boxes – containing gifts and vital necessities - have been distributed to the needy in countries such as far flung as eastern Europe and Pakistan.

Blythswood is still looking for volunteers to help at its shoebox sorting depot at Deephaven, and were happy to enlist the help of Kate Forbes MSP.

And the MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has urged residents to volunteer some of their time collating the shoeboxes at Maryburgh, Inverness and Blythwsood’s Deephaven depot near Evanton.

Sorting at Deephaven is ongoing Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Volunteers are welcome to pop along or call 01349 830777. Blythswood’s Danny Muschate said: “We are always astounded by the number of people who willingly give their time. We especially want to thank Kate Forbes for her support.”
