Dingwall and Highlands Marts Ltd on Thursday, August 17, sold 13,556 store lambs at their annual district sale to average £71.08, down £1.79 on the year.

Cheviot Wedder lambs (8518) averaged £71.14 (up £0.87 on the year) and sold to £111 from Linnie, Tore.

Cheviot ewe lambs (2086) averaged £69.18 (down £11.37 on the year) and sold to £125 from Tongue Mains Farm, Sutherland.

Other breeds (2952) averaged £73.62 (down £1.58 on the year) and sold to £117 from Greenland Mains, Castletown.

“Vendors were blown away as a whirlwind of a trade greeted them crossing the gates to the castle. A copious amount of buyers packed themselves into the ringside eager to obtain numbers for the endless amount of grass reported on farms. Cheviot wedders held up their values extremely well and records an increase in values on the year

" Cheviot ewe lambs cashed in at reduced values with many lacking the size and stature of last year. The best sorts were in seriously short supply and many more could have easily been sold. Continentals met a fierce enquiry and were dearer than the first sale.”
