More than 500,000 people in Scotland have now received first dose of Covid-19 coronavirus vaccine

MORE than half a million Scots have now received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The milestone was revealed when the Scottish Government revealed the latest daily update on Friday afternoon.

Some 515,855 pose have now had the first dose – an increase of more than 50,000 in the past 24 hours.

The daily update also revealed that 96 per cent of all care home residents and 68 per cent of all people over 80 in the wider Scottish community have now received their first vaccination.

And the Scottish Government expects to have reached 100 per cent of both groups by “early next week”.

Those aged 70 to 79, or classed as “extremely vulnerable”, will begin to receive the jag from next week.

Meanwhile, some 1155 people across Scotland have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. Figures for NHS Highland's daily tests will be released after 2pm.
