A YELLOW warning for very strong winds set to hit the Highlands today has been extended.

Gusts are expected to last until 6pm today and could top 75mph in the region.

Forecasters predict gusts of 50-60mph "widely" across many parts of the region, with 65mph possible in "exposed locations".

The area is now extended to Orkney and the far Northwest of Scotland and excluded from the southwest.

Sepa has also warned of a risk of localised coastal flooding risk for Nairn, Findhorn, Moray and Speyside.

Elsewhere in the Highlands, Sepa has also issued coastal flood alerts for Wester Ross and the Skye and Lochaber area.

This might bring disruption to travel in the area and some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.
