UPDATE: Services returning to normal at Inverness Airport after freezing fog caused travel chaos yesterday

Inverness Airport is back up and running after flight chaos.

Only British Airways’ 7.05am departure to London Heathrow was cancelled this morning, with the previous evening’s flight unable to land.

All arrivals and departures were operating as scheduled, although there was a minor delay on a 5.30pm Manchester arrival for non-weather related reasons.

A spokesman for airport owners Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (Hial) said: "Air services at Inverness airport are running as scheduled today.

"The early morning BA London Heathrow flight was cancelled because the aircraft was unable to land at Inverness last night.

"There is a little bit of spill-over from yesterday with the knock-on effect.

"It is actually quite a short visibility window they need to land and take-off, but yesterday it was down to 100 feet at times.

"For the airlines, pilots and Inverness Airport safety is always the number one priority, with clear regulations to adhere to.

"We would just advise all passengers to check with their airlines before travelling, but the rest of the day is currently scheduled to go as it should."
