Police believe a threat made to a Highland secondary school was a malicious call.

Officers are continuing inquiries at Fortrose Academy where pupils and staff were evacuated today following reports of a "bomb scare".

A Police Scotland spokesperson said officers responded to what is now believed to be a malicious call to the school in Academy Street.

"As a precaution, staff evacuated the school," the spokesperson said.

"A search of the building has been conducted and there have been no suspicious items found. "Inquiries are under way to identify the person responsible."

Pupils were sent home early.
