A person has been taken to hospital after the Kessock Bridge was closed for more than three hours last night.

The section of the A9 was closed in both directions from around 11.50pm last night and was clear by 3.07am today.

Traffic Scotland reported it was due to a police incident.

It is understood officers were responding to a concern for a person call.

RNLI Kessock lifeboat crew was requested to launch by HM Coastguard at 11.42pm. It is not clear if this was related.

The bridge closure added extra time to the journey for some motorists returning home after watching Celtic win 3-1 against Caley Thistle at Hampden in Glasgow.

Highland councillor Duncan Macpherson (Inverness South) said signage on the A9 was used to warn northbound motorists of the bridge closure.
