Firefighters confirmed that an incident prompting the closure of two main Inverness city centre bridges was due to a water rescue operation.

Emergency services were on the scene at Ness Bridge after the latter was closed earlier this evening – as well as the Greig Street suspension bridge which was also closed to pedestrians.

Both bridges have now been reopened.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said they were called to the scene at 5.44pm and they sent two appliances and two water rescue teams to the scene.

Police and ambulance have also been contacted for any further information.
