Police blocked off part of the High Street this afternoon.

Police closed part of Inverness High Street temporarily this afternoon after being told a man had a gun.

Firearms officers were sent to the scene as a precaution.

It is understood a BB gun was recovered.

The pedestrian area was cordoned by two lines of officers at either end of the street, from around CEX to McDonald's earlier this afternoon.

Shop staff and customers were evacuated from some stores and café premises.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 3.10pm on Thursday, 5 January, 2023, police received a report of a man in possession of a firearm at a premises in High Street, Inverness.

"Officers attended and a 28-year-old man was issued with a recorded police warning."
