AN elderly woman seen walking through the streets of an Easter Ross town at 2.30am in her pyjamas has been traced.

Police issued the appeal earlier today after concern for the woman's welfare was raised.

However in an update post, the Highlands and islands division of Police Scotland reported: "We are pleased to let you know that we have traced the elderly lady previously reported missing in the Alness area.

"Thank you to the public and others who assisted us."

Earlier, police said they had received a report at 2.30am this morning in Alness of an elderly lady in her pyjamas walking past Market Square in the direction towards Morrisons.

That sparked extensive searches - including the use of a police dog - initially without success.

Police had voiced concern for her welfare "as she was not dressed appropriately for the sub-zero weather conditions overnight".
