A BOMB disposal team has been summoned to a locked down area of Invergordon, police have confirmed.

A police cordon was thrown around an area of the Easter Ross port town this morning after the earlier discovery of what's believed to be some unexploded ordnance.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said : “Emergency services are in attendance at Castle Terrace, Invergordon after an unexploded ordnance was found.

"A cordon has been put in place and EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) have been contacted.”

Public access to the scene has been restricted and all schools and nurseries in the town closed as a precaution.

Police said: "Members of the public are requested to stay away from the area in the meantime."

It's understood the EOD unit is now in place.
