BEAR Scotland is currently unable to say when traffic chaos in Inverness will ease after a manhole collapsed on a city road approaching the Kessock Bridge.
The road maintenance and management firm confirmed Scottish Water is still working to repair the damage after the A82 was closed this afternoon to all northbound traffic at Longman Road.
Diversions were set in place with the northbound closure – stretching from Henderson Road to Longman roundabout – affecting a number of roads in and around the city centre.
A Traffic Scotland update at 4pm today said roads were “busy, but coping well” with traffic volume along diversions.
A BEAR Scotland spokeswoman said: “Planned works were due to be carried out by Scottish Water on the A82 Henderson Rd junction to Longman Road roundabout northbound.
“Unfortunately, a manhole they were due to work on collapsed this morning, which means a road closure with a diversion is necessary while Scottish Water carries out repairs.
“We do not currently have a time for the road reopening.
“There is a diversion in place via Henderson Rd, Lotland St, Longman Drive, Stadium Rd, rejoining the A9 at Longman Rnbt. For A9 NB traffic, from Longman Rnbt continue south to Raigmore Interchange and return A9 NB.”
Scottish Water have been asked for comment.
