THE A96 has re-opened in both directions east of Inverness, near Balloch, following an earlier crash.

Traffic Scotland said traffic was now "running well in both directions" after confirming the road had re-opened shortly after 5.35pm.

The collision is understood to have occurred between Allanfearn and Tornagrain around 4.25pm and involved two vehicles.

Police said that the injuries at the scene "did not appear to be life threatening".

The collision came just 35 minutes after a crash in Ross-shire closed the A9 in both directions just north of the Cromarty Bridge.

That crash, between a lorry and car, has resulted in the closure of the road between the Ardullie roundabout and Evanton.

There was no immediate word on whether anyone was injured, but police were advising drivers to find alternate routes.
