LATEST: Road reopens after flooding

THE major trunk road through the Highlands remains closed due to flooding.

The A9 closure is near Tomich in Easter Ross.

Traffic Scotland, which monitors Scotland's trunk roads, first flagged the closure around 1.12pm today.

It said: "The A9 is closed in both directions at Tomich due to flooding on the carriageway.

"Motorists are advised to use an alternative route at this time."

A Met Office weather warning for heavy rain is in place until 11.45pm tonight. It started at midnight on Friday.

That is followed by a Yellow warning for strong winds bringing the potential for further disruption tomorrow.

It kicks in at noon on Sunday and runs until midnight the same day.

It flags the possibility of:

- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport

- Some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer

- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges

- Some short term loss of power and other services

- Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.
