AN INTRIGUING subsea film is to be premiered at a festival in Ross-shire this weekend.

The Highland Seashore Project has come together with SubseaTV and Wester Ross musician and composer Mairearad Green to create an original four-minute film showcasing the wonders around our shores.

The film will be screened for the first time at the annual Summer Isles Festival in Achiltibuie today (Saturday) as part of a whole host of seashore-related events, together with a weekend of quality music from local musicians and bands.

SubSeaTv’s cameraman Andy Jackson and writer and narrator Jackie Daly, known for their work with BBC1, BBC 2 and National Geographic, have created the underwater film.

The movie is based beneath the waters off the coast of the Highlands and cut from hundreds of hours’ worth of dives by Andy to achieve the perfect four-minute story.

Together with the magical tones of Mairearad’s score, the film is a moving introduction to a world most of us cannot see.

Festival organiser Mairearad Green, who comes from Coigach but currently lives in Glasgow, said: "Our coast, the heritage and nature of our shores has always been an inspiration to my music and to celebrate this by writing music for this film has been an absolute joy and privilege to work on.

"To further promote our shores, I will be including the composition on my forthcoming solo album Summer Isles which will be released at the beginning of next year.

"This collaboration with Andy and Jackie has been the start of hopefully many creative projects to highlight the diverse coast of Scotland."

Jackie Daly, who provides the narration for the film, said: "The film is colourful and captivating with a vibrant musical score to set the mood. The narrative is built around the theme of Scottish hospitality, exploring which sort of homes – and welcomes – we might find underwater."

After the premiere, the film will be launched on social media, including the Highland Seashore Project website.
