AN Ullapool shop has been recommended by Craft Scotland as one of the top Scottish boutiques for finding a handcrafted gift this Christmas.

In the list of the 11 best boutiques, Ceard has been ranked alongside venues in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee.

Run by Sara Garnett and Jan Kilpatrick, Ceard showcases the best of art and craft from across the Highlands with a strong focus on locally made items.

Jan and Sara are both practising artists and formed part of a selling collective in 2011 where both were involved with the organisation and finance roles for the co-operative.

They joined forces and moved to their new premises on West Argyle Street in 2015.

Sara said: "I have worked for public and private galleries all my career, including Tate Britain, but any previous achievements are surpassed by the success of our shop, and the relationship we have built with our makers and Craft Scotland.

"As a host for Craft Scotland Meet Your Maker events we can bring craft to life, and help foster a deeper understanding of the skills that are so abundant in the Highlands, skills which are increasingly proving to be an important part of our economy.

"The shop might be small, but we have proved that you don’t have to travel to Scotland’s major cities to find a beautiful and unique gift!

"Jan and I work hard to keep Ceard offer fresh, and the shop welcoming, but we could not have achieved anything without our amazing and diverse makers and artists."
