A WESTER Ross museum has reopened and is welcoming visitors under new coronavirus guidelines.

Ullapool Museum said its eagerly anticipated reopening had been made possible with a small grant to bring on a new member of staff, get screens in place and ensure the facility "is a safe and enjoyable experience for all".

The museum has a one-way system in place and asks that everyone visiting wears masks to ensure the safety of other visitors and volunteers.

It has a maximum occupancy of ten people at any one time and asks visitors to be patient given the circumstances.

The museum is offering disposable gloves to anyone wishing to browse in the gift shop but advises that its toilets are currently closed.

It flags up public toilets across the road from its West Argyle Street premises. The museum is located inside a Category A listed Telford church and boasts extensive archives, interactive panels and children's activity areas.

It's also offering visitors some added adventure, inviting them to give the Ullapool Treasure Hunt a go.

That's available at reception and invites people to take a journey around the village collecting answers from the clues.

While a number of previously planned activities have been postponed in line with coronavirus guidelines,a family friendly workshop on the theme of the MacDonald Armouries is scheduled to go ahead on Saturday, August 22, it says.

It will now be held out the front of the museum with a maximum of 10 people at a time.

Promising educational fun led by Paul MacDonald, it will include various original examples of Jacobite arms. Also featured will be various finds including a Pictish axe and some of the first shots fired in the '45.
