A WESTER Ross book festival has unveiled a dazzling line-up of literary talent ahead of its May showcase.

Scottish historian Sir Tom Devine, Irish writer, journalist and broadcaster Peter Geoghegan, Miriam Gamble and Jim Carruth will be joined at Ullapool Book Festival by Madras-born poet and novelist Leela Soma, Chris Dolan, Donald S. Murray and Linda Cracknell.

Festival organisers are keeping an eye on the coronavirus situation and won’t release tickets until April 9. Writers are based in Scotland, reducing travel issues, and organisers are planning for all eventualities.

Sir Tom’s recent bestselling book on the Scottish Clearances has been acclaimed as masterpiece. Peter Geoghegan’s Democracy For Sale: Dark Money and Dirty Politics, tells how money, vested interests and digital skulduggery have destroyed trust in democracy and fuelled the rise of populism.

Donald S Murray is a Gaelic speaking poet, author and occasional dramatist. His 2019 award-winning novel, As the Women Lay Dreaming, was inspired by the Iolaire disaster. He has two books coming out in 2021, a novel, In a Veil of Mist, and a non-fiction book, For the Safety of All – the Story of Scotland’s Lighthouses.

Up-to-date information on the event will be published on the Ullapool Book Festival website, on Facebook and Twitter, and also sent out to people on the UBF mailing list.
