Ullapool Bank of Scotland set to close as 64 per cent fall in visits flagged up

The Ullapool Bank of Scotland is due to close in October due to a 64 per cent fall in visits to the branch in recent years.

The branch, which is due to close on October 23, was already operating only three days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am – 2pm.

Bank of Scotland stated that branch transactions in Ullapool fell by more than 64 per cent between 2017 and 2022, with many customers already using other ways of banking, such as over the phone or internet banking, as well as visiting other branches.

The latest announcement continues a trend witnessed across Ross-shire and the Highlands.

The bank's headquarters are flagging the presence of a nearby Post Office, which is a four-minute walk away at Ullapool Village Hall. It says that offers personal and business customers everyday banking services, access to cash, paying in of cheques, and more.

The nearest free–to–use ATM is at the Royal Bank of Scotland on Argyle Street, or at Tesco Ullapool on Latheron Lane.

A Bank of Scotland spokesperson said: “As many customers now choose to bank online or through their mobile app, visits to our Ullapool branch have fallen over recent years.

"The local Post Office offers everyday banking, with cash also available at close by free–to–use ATMs, alongside other ways to bank such as online, phone and mobile banking services. After the branch closes, our community banker will also be on hand to support customers in the area.”

In the run-up to the branch closure, branch staff will be on hand to offer support and guidance on the ways customers can continue to bank. After the branch closes, there will also be a Community Banker visiting the area, who will continue to offer face–to–face support for as long as the community needs it.

The bank said: “We will discuss with local communities which locations would be appropriate for our Community Banker to set up in, and on which days.”
