DRIFTING snow has resulted in treacherous conditions in parts of Ross-shire with two roads closed.

In Wester Ross, the Fain on the A832 between Dundonnell and Braemore is still closed this morning, according to Highland Council, after a full day of effort yesterday by two snowploughs and a digger to keep it operational.

The infamous Bealach na Ba pass towards Applecross is also still closed.

Knockan is also affected by drifting snow though coastal routes are all said to be clear of snow.

In its morning road conditon repor, Highland Council noted that the UK Met Office currently has a yellow weather warning in place for snow for much of the Highland region.

Changes to this weather warning throughout the course of the day can be tracked at https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/

Maps of the council’s gritting routes by priority and policy are available online at www.highland.gov.uk/gritting

Lochaber – sleet showers throughout routes, modest wind still present. All primary and secondary routes complete.

Skye and Raasay – snow showers affecting north Skye with some minor accumulations. No problems reported in south Skye. Primary routes have been treated and treatment on secondary and other routes continuing.

Caithness – low temperatures with snow showers forecast, roads mainly damp and some inland routes and around Thurso had a very light dusting of snow, treating all routes as necessary.

Inverness – dusting of snow on roads, all roads to be gritted this morning ahead of snow forecast.

Sutherland – low ground mainly damp roads, high ground up to 12cm of snow with drifting in places mainly in the central area of the county. "All routes being bladed and treated as necessary ahead of more snow forecast this afternoon".

Badenoch and Strathspey – dusting of snow and frosty patches at lower levels. Two to three centimetres of snow on higher routes with drifting. B9007 Glenferness and A939 Dava remain closed due to drifting snow. All resources deployed in treating roads.
