Trio set for intimate Dingwall gig on Saturday

AN opportunity to see a talented trio in the intimate setting of one of Ross-shire's newest music venues is being offered music fans today (Saturday).

John Mitchell, who is from Balintore, teams up with Swedes Sofie Jonsson and Ulf Nygards to perform a music rooted in American and Celtic music at The Greenhouse in Dingwall this afternoon.

The trio, who feature dobro, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and harmony vocals, will showcase songs and tunes from their recent album, Western Highways.

The gig is scheduled to take place between 2pm and 4pm today at the High Street venue.

As the trio The Albadukes, they have played at a host of festivals in Sweden.

They've also performed at the Belladrum Tartan Heart festivals in Scotland with Americana trio The Cross-eyed Gals.

John and Sofie regularly perform in Scotland, and they also played a few gigs in the US in 2009 and in Prague in 2010.

Playing around 100 gigs per year has allowed them to hone their performance skills and stagecraft.

In 010 they decided it was time to capture their music on an album. Recorded in December 2010 to January 2011, Western Highways is John and Sofie’s debut CD and reflects their background in Celtic and American music while also introducing some of their own material.

The Greenhouse gig starts at 2pm.
