TRIBUTES have been paid to a kirk minister and Munro bagger who died while hiking on An Teallach.

Rev Johnny Paton (60), who was a member of the Church of Scotland based on Mull, had been holidaying in Ullapool with his wife Cathy when he went on a solo hike up the popular mountain on Monday.

When he failed to return a search was launched and his body was found at 8.45am on Tuesday.

Stewart Shaw, clerk to the Presbytery of Argyll, said: “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a distinguished minister and kindly friend, Rev Johnny Paton. We extend our sympathies and condolences to his wife, Cathy and his family. We hold them and his congregations in our thoughts and prayers.”
