Train drivers union to put improved pay offer of 4.2 per cent to members following ScotRail talks amid some of the worst rail disruption in years with more than half of north Highland services cancelled

A day of negotiations ended with a 4.2 per cent pay offer and a package of improved conditions that will be put to drivers for their consideration.

That is according to the train drivers union Aslef following talks with ScotRail.

Hundreds of services have been cancelled across the country due to a shortage of drivers.

The Highlands was among the worst hit areas with well over half of services north of Inverness cancelled.

That has left many people in remote areas, where public transport is limited, struggling to get to work or to medical appointments.

The Scottish Government has come in for heavy criticism due the introduction of what was called a temporary timetable.

This came less than two months after ScotRail was taken into public ownership.
