ONE of the guest speakers at this year’s XpoNorth creative economy conference has signed a book deal with Highland-based publisher Sandstone Press.

The announcement was made by Kim Hawes as she was about to speak about a career as one of the first female tour managers in rock, working with the likes of Black Sabbath and Motorhead.

Publication is scheduled for summer 2022.

Ms Hawes was among 90 international speakers who took part in the online programme, which was produced by a team of seven from the Ironworks in Inverness. Many of the team have diversified from live events to delivering online events over the past year.

Sandstone Press said it was delighted to have acquired world rights to Lipstick and Leather: On the road with the world’s most notorious rock stars.

Assistant publisher and metalhead Kay Farrell said: "The minute I read Lipstick and Leather I was in love. Kim’s book is full of incident, anecdote and stories that made me howl with laughter. The writing feels like a chat with your best girl friend about all the things you don’t tell the men in your life."

Kim Hawes said: "It is an amazing feeling to look back on your life with pride. Even more amazing was the feeling when Sandstone Press said that they wanted to put my life in print, lipstick, leather and all."

Venue director Caroline Campbell said: “Being able to make the XpoNorth 2021 conference, which is always free to attend, accessible to a much wider audience across Scotland and beyond has been wonderful.

“We had delegates from as far as Iceland, Los Angeles, Singapore, Lewis and Copenhagen, not only watching the sessions, but engaging with speakers and networking with peers. It was great to witness deals being struck and business being done too.

“I express my thanks to Highlands and Island Enterprise and the wider team at the Ironworks Venue for making XpoNorth 2021 possible to ensure everyone has this annual opportunity to unite to progress the future of the sector.”
