A ROSS-SHIRE community will tomorrow unite in tribute to a local cycling legend who has died at the age of 82.

Kenny Ross, of Ken Ross Cycles, Invergordon, had family by his side when he passed away at Raigmore Hospital.

Very well known in Highland cycling circles, as a rider and through his shop, Mr Ross will be laid to rest at Rosskeen Cemetery tomorrow at 1pm.

Poignantly, a cycling procession will follow the hearse leaving his old bike shop and heading down Invergordon High Street and out to the cemetery.

Present-day cycling star Kyle Gordon will lead the hearse on its way to the cemetery.

Sharing funeral details of the well-loved man, Mr Gordon said he had been asked by the family, adding: "I am truly touched and proud to do for Ken."

Cyclists are invited to meet at 12:30pm at Ken’s old shop on Munro Street, ready to join behind the convoy at 12:45pm and on to the cemetery.

When arriving at the cemetery for Kenny’s final part of his journey, the hearse will come to a stop. Cyclists are invited to pass and form a line either side of the cemetery road and Kenny will pass through for a final farewell.

Anyone unable to attend the cemetery can pay their respects as the procession passes through Invergordon High Street.

The send off will be outdoors and people are asked to remember to follow social distancing guidelines.

Mr Gordon added: "Dig out your retro or current club kit and let’s give Kenny the send-off he deserves."

His loved ones have requested family flowers only. Donations in memory of Kenny may be forwarded directly to the Spinal Unit, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Glasgow.
