Prime cattle and sheep sale prices from Dingwall and Highland Marts today; Increasing prime cattle trade reflected in ring – 'more could have been sold'

DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold 14 prime cattle.

Prime bullocks (3) averaged 236.2p (+16.2p) and sold to 239p per kg for a 585kg Bazadaise cross from Easter Hardmuir, Nairn selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall and £1549.45 gross for a 665kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock.

Prime heifers (11) averaged 239.8p (+14.3p) and sold to 249p per kg twice for a 570kg Limousin cross from Kinchyle Farm, Scaniport and for a 565kg Limousin cross also from Kinchyle Farm selling to Messrs Fraser Brothers, Butchers, Dingwall an £1516.20 gross for a 665kg Charolais cross from Easter Sheep Park, Balblair selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall.

Comment following the sale was: “The increasing prime cattle trade was reflected in the live ring. More could have been sold.”

Also sold were 858 prime sheep.

Old season lambs (777) averaged 288.5p (+2.7p) and sold to 302p per kg and £139 gross for a pen of 46kg Texel crosses from 5c Balnabeen, Conon Bridge selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall.

SQQ 36.5kg to 45.5kg (711) averaged 290.0p (+2.1p) per kg.

Feeding sheep (81) sold to £116 gross twice for Mules both from Balnabual, Dalcross.

Comment afterwards was: “Prime sheep were dearer on the week. Well finished hoggs were in particular demand.”
