THE A9 remains closed in both directions following a serious road accident followed by a fire at the Slochd Summit.

Three vehicles were involved in the collision around 11.30am, and police investigations work is continuing.

Four people were removed to hospital said police.

Two ambulance helicopters, road ambulances and three fire units from Aviemore, Kingussie and Inverness attended along with police units.

It is understood one of the ambulance helicopters came from either Aberdeen or Glasgow.

The location was near where the dual-carriageway joins the double-lane road close to the German Soldier landmark in the cliffs.

Police Scotland said: "Inquiries are ongoing following a serious road crash, involving three vehicles on the A9 this morning.

"We have a more specific location for motorists to be aware of - the incident occurred on the A9 at the Slochd Summit. "Four people have been taken to hospital so far.

"The road will remain closed as crash scene investigators conduct inquiries into the circumstances of the collision.

"Motorists are advised to find alternative routes and diversions are in place.

"We have no further information for release at this stage."
