TESCO shoppers in Ross-shire are being urged to cast their votes to help three community projects bag up to £25,000 this autumn.

The supermarket is marking its centenary with two special Bags of Help funding rounds – with a huge £100,000 funding pot in the north and east regions. After a successful first round, customer voting is now under way on a second raft of shortlisted groups in October.

In Ullapool, Dingwall and Tain, customers can cast their votes for Alzheimer’s Scotland, Keirans Legacy and Young Entreprise Scotland using blue tokens handed out at checkouts. Grants of £25,000, £15,000 and £10,000 are up for grabs.

So far in the Highlands, Bags of Help has awarded more than £958,000 to 318 local projects. The funding will reach more than 30 regions during each round, with £3.3 million up for grabs in total.

Tony McElroy, Tesco’s head of communications in Scotland, said: “We have been celebrating a century of delivering great value for our customers throughout 2019. And central to that have been our Centenary Grants, which aim to support groups and organisations who are helping to make a difference across Scotland.”

Bags of Help is funded using the mandatory 5p plastic bag charges levied in stores.
