Staff at the store collected donations as part of a collective effort mounted with other Tesco outlets in the north.

The fundraising event brought together Tesco stores across the north, with staff and customers aiming to collective cycle the distance from Scotland to Ukraine – 2137 miles.

The Dingwall store managed to cycle more than 10 per cent of the way, clocking up 264 miles on an exercise bike loaned by Mark Dryburgh of Dryburgh Cycles.

The £2978.85 raised over the weekend was put together with totals raised at other stores to reach an impressive £13,660 total.

The store’s community champion, Michelle Mackay, expressed her sincere thanks to all her colleagues and customers who took part as well as to all the local businesses who donated prizes for the event as well.

The cash will help buy essential items including food, water, first aid equipment and medicines and warm clothes.
