A TRIO of bowlers emerged triumphant after an enjoyable day's competition battling it out for Invergordon Bowling Club's in-house triples short mat competition.

Twenty-three club members vied for the MK Shand Shield.

It came from the MK Shand pipe coating works that was operational in Invergordon from 1972 to 1993.

The yard was created in 1972 at the start of the North Sea oil boom by the Anglo-American group MK Shand and was later taken over in 1985 by Leith-based British Pipe Coaters.

At its peak, the yard employed almost 700 people. The shield was originally donated by the MK Shand group, and was first played for in 1984.

The tournament took the format of two leagues with four teams of three players. Due to the odd number of players, one club member helped out by playing for two teams. Each game consisted of six ends with the winning team taking 2 points and any team drawing sharing 1 point each. The league games were keenly fought over with no team taking a commanding lead.

After an enjoyable three games each, the two winning league teams played a deciding final game.

Winners from League 1 were Ina MacDougall, George Mackay and David Gordon, who won all their league games. And from League 2, Andy Dobson, Allan Ross and Hugh MacDougall, who won 2 and drew 1 game, made the final.

Members watched the six ends of play in the final as the two league winners battled it out. After a great exchange of fantastic bowls the team consisting of Andy Dobson as lead, Allan Ross as second and Hugh MacDougall as skip, came out on top to become the 2022/23 Club Short Mat Triples winners.

The club thanked members who participated and those who staffed the kitchen and ensured the day went smoothly.
