MEETING at a dance as teenagers ultimately led to steps down the aisle for a couple who have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Don and Helen Matheson received congratulations from the Queen through her Ross and Cromarty Lord Lieutenant, Joanie Whiteford.
Don, who was originally from Stornoway, and Helen from Ayrshire, met at a dance in The Highland Institute in Glasgow. Helen asked Don to dance as it was ladies' choice.
Little did she know what a life changing choice this was and they were both only sixteen-and-a-half years old at the time.
They settled in Edderton, Ardvanie House, where they lived for 25 years.
Don worked offshore for Lloyds Register for 12 years before becoming an onshore Lloyds Representative at Nigg, Ardersier, Lewis Offshore and the shipping interests in Invergordon while Helen was a supply teacher, spending most of her time at Craighill, Knockbreck and Edderton covering
management time.
They have a daughter Helen who is married and lives in Hertfordshire, and two grandchildren of whom they are very proud, Robert and Marleen.
They have always been very involved in the community activities in the Seaboard villages, where they are well-known.
They celebrated with their family in Glasgow over their anniversary weekend and received a card from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
