Police are appealing for ongoing public support in tackling incidents of vandalism

A 15-year-old boy has been brought to the attention of the Children's Reporter in connection with a spate of incidents of vandalism in an Easter Ross community.

Police have warned of the cost of vandalism in the wake of the spree and appealed to members of the public to assist with a crime "notoriously difficult" to detect.

The teenager has been reported in connection with seven incidents of vandalism in the Firhill and Novar Road areas of Alness over the past month.

Damage was caused to several properties and vehicles during this period.

Acting Inspector Donald MacNeill, based in Dingwall, said: "Vandalism is not a victimless crime and its cost is felt not only in the pockets of residents, but also in terms of the negative impact it has on the appearance of the environment around them.

"Vandalism is a notoriously difficult crime to detect, but with the continued support of our communities, who may have useful information, we can combine successfuly to tackle it."
