MEMBERS of a small family business in Easter Ross who offer a lasting service to people who are often at their lowest ebb have spoken of their delight in being recognised for their work.

The Memorial Awareness Board (MAB) has been promoting and organising the Cemetery of the Year Awards for nearly 20 years.

Mackay’s Memorial Headstones, based near Invergordon, has been named the 2021 Gold prizewinner in the British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons’ sponsored Memorial Design Category in the national competition.

Philip Potts of the MAB said entries were marked on their innovation, personalisation and originality.

The awards are seen as an excellent opportunity to reward and demonstrate the central role memorial masons and cemeteries can play in the community.

Struan Mackay, owner and memorial mason, called the award “amazing”, adding: “Being a small family business fairly new to the memorial industry it has not
always been an easy journey, however, we receive amazing support from Rob and his team at the Blast Shop among many others whose support and advice we value greatly.

“So really this award acknowledges not only the Mackay’s Memorial team, but all those who have supported us while we build and
develop our business. We are so grateful to the Gartland family for providing us the opportunity to supply them with this memorial for their beloved Sophia. I think this memorial is a great example of what can be achieved in memorial design.

“This award also acknowledges not only an amazing design, but what we aim to do as a business, which is to provide a reliable, friendly, and quality service where we work with the customer to achieve their vision. We are thrilled to be presented with this award.”
