FURTHER planning applications have come in towards making Tanera Mor, one of the Summer Isles off Achiltibuie, a global get-away destination providing a unique experience and high level of service to visiting clients.

The island became the hub of Summer Isles Enterprises when it was bought by multi-millionaire Ian Wace, a hedge fund manager, in 2017.

The latest applications are for an off-grid carriage to be situated above a

beach near Fuschia Cottage, and for a change of use of Rowan Cottage to an assembly and dining area for 12, and the siting of a renovated carriage with outdoor cooking facilities parked to the rear.

According to design statements the plan for Tanera Mòr over a period of six years is to restore and regenerate the physical ruins and structures that were inherited when the project started in April 2017.

There is currently a team of more than 100 people employed on the project full time.

The design statement says: "One end of the island is close to completion, (while) various sites elsewhere are still very much in the construction phase. Whilst the focus has always been on the restoration of the existing ruins, there have also been new buildings proposed.

"Traditional building methods will be used where possible to reflect the existing examples visible across the island. The materials used on the island are very consistent, with stone, tin and reclaimed timber being most prominent.

"As with the rest of the island developments the carriage has been repurposed and rebuilt using predominantly reclaimed materials of timber

and tin."

The existing Rowan Cottage is an old timber frame kit house not far from the historic Herring Station.

"To continue providing unique experiences to the island's clientele it is proposed to provide outdoor cooking and dining facilities at Rowan Cottage.

The footprint and form of the cottage will remain, and a carriage equipped with outdoor cooking facilities will be located to the rear," says the design statement.

"The rear porch will be removed, and a new access stair and seating area constructed to the front. The front elevation will maintain a traditional cottage style with a central front door and new sash and case windows.

The grey concrete roof tiles will be removed and replaced with reclaimed corrugated tin, and the uPVC gutters and downpipes will be replaced with cast iron ones. The rear elevation will have custom steel sliding doors with reclaimed timber shutters."
