A LOCAL author's honest and very funny page-turning memoir is set to become the talk of the town in Dingwall this summer.

Cynthia Rogerson's Wah! Things I Never Told My Mother, is the focus of a trailblazing push by local publisher Sandstone Press, Dingwall Community Library and High Street business, Picaresque Books.

One Town, One Book is a community reading initiative which aims to get a everyone reading and discussing the same book while supporting independent bookshops.

Dingwall’s first One Town, One Book project will include online and in person book club discussions, media interviews, readings and signings during June and July.

Posters and other promotional materials are available to local businesses from Sandstone Press while books and free bookmarks are available to readers from Picaresque Books.

Cynthia Rogerson declared herself "hugely excited", adding: "More importantly, my mother is over the moon, in her posthumous way. 'I’m so proud of you, she’d say.’"

Robert Davidson, managing director at Sandstone Press, is thrilled the "wonderfully readable book" will kick-start the collaboration. He said: "Not only has Cynthia been an incredibly positive force for creative writing in our area, but Dingwall is also where Sandstone Press was founded."

David Duguid, of Picaresque books, said: "For a bookshop or library it is always good to have the chance to celebrate a local writer or a local publisher and therefore to do both is a very satisfying slam-dunk occasion. Here in the Highlands there is an avid, knowledgeable and evaluative readership keen to support literary endeavours both in their local areas and Scotland-wide."

Local library supervisor Carmen Garcia-Pagan said: "We are delighted to be involved with the One Town, One Book project celebrating Cynthia Rogerson’s new book. It’s always a pleasure to see her, she’s visited our book groups on a number of occasions where they have read and discussed some of her other works, so we’re really looking forward to reading her memoir."

Join Cynthia Rogerson, Sandstone and Picaresque Books at Dingwall Community Library on July 5 at 6.30pm for an author talk and Q&A. The event is free but please RSVP to info@sandstonepress.com.
