A TEENAGE shop worker was ordered to pay £1,500 in compensation after she went on a spree of smashing windows at Tain Royal Academy.

Seventeen-year-old Nicola Skinner of Fountain Road, Tain admitted at the town’s Sheriff Court on Monday wilfully smashing eight windows by throwing stones at them while acting along with others on June 17 this year.

Depute fiscal Roderick Urquhart told Sheriff David Sutherland in total 11 windows were smashed costing £2,308.

"I don’t have a figure for the eight windows contained in the charge today," he told the court.

The fiscal said evidence was obtained from CCTV footage at the school.

Alison Foggo, solicitor for Skinner said the 17 year-old had been in part-time employment as a shop assistant at Tesco’s in Tain and had now secured full-time work.

"To say she is deeply ashamed is understating matters. She is absolutely mortified and her mother is ashamed.

"She is desperate to make restitution and has already started saving," said Ms Foggo.

Sheriff Sutherland ordered Skinner to pay £1500 in compensation at £20 per week.
