A SPECIALIST emergency clean-up team has been called out to deal with an "unknown chemical" find in Tain.

Fire and rescue chiefs have asked neighbouring residents in the Knockbreck Street area to keep doors and windows closed as " precaution" while the incident is dealt with.

Emergency services were called to the house in Knockbreck Street after a member of the public reported finding an unknown chemical within a shed during a house clearance.

As a precaution Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service are sending a specialist chemical team to remove the substance.

Environmental health officials at the scene asked police to close Knockbreck Street until the substance, which is contained in two half litre bottles, is removed safely.

In a statement, Northern Constabulary said, "There is no immediate danger to the public, however, neighbouring houses are being advised to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution."
