BLACK Isle primary pupils disappointed about the cancellation of their summer holidays this year are being invited to bag themselves a sweet treat instead.

The Royal Hotel in Cromarty is challenging pupils to design a picture with the heading My Holiday to be in with a chance of the prize.

Hotel operator Jenny Henderson said: "We know that lots of you have had to cancel your summer holidays this year, so we thought we’d run a wee competition for you to design a picture. This can be a real holiday you’ve been on, one you were supposed to be going on this year, or a complete fantasy holiday – the choice is yours!"

There are two age categories for primary classes 1-3 and 4–7.

The winner of each category is promised "a huge bag of sweeties".

The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday, June 12.

Pictures should be no smaller than A4, and no bigger than A3 size.

Mixed media is welcome in both categories and the older age group can include a short description if they wish.

Participants are asked to write their class and age clearly on the back of their picture and to include the name and phone number of their parent or guardian in an envelope attached to the back of the picture.

Entries from local folk can be dropped off in the plastic box at the top of Gordon’s Lane in Cromarty beside the veg/plant swap shop. People are asked to adhere to social-distancing guidelines.

Ms Henderson added: "We don’t want to encourage non-essential journeys so if you live outwith Cromarty, please get in touch so we can arrange drop off points."

The pictures will be displayed in the conservatory at the Royal.

And anyone unable to have sweeties for health reasons can say so and a more suitable prize will be organised.

Ms Henderson said: "Good luck folks, feel free to share with your pals and I can’t wait to see your creations!"
