A SPECIAL event for unpaid carers on will be hosted in Inverness by NHS Highland next week.
The event will mark Carers Week, which runs between June 5 and 11 this year and campaigns to raise awareness of caring and highlighting the challenges unpaid carers face.
Running on Thursday, June 8 at Inshes Church, Inverness, the event will give those who have unpaid carer responsibilities a chance to chat with support organisations to find out more about what help is available to them as well as connecting with other carers in the community.
NHS Highland Carer Support Services will be there on the day as well as many other support organisations such as Connecting Carers, Carr Gomm, and Befrienders Highland.
Jennifer Campbell, carer services development officer at NHS Highland, said: “Lots of people don’t even realise they are carers or what support is available, so we want to welcome them to this event. Our aim is to let people know how they can be supported in their role as unpaid carers.
“A carer is anyone who provides unpaid care or support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition, addiction, or who needs extra help as they grow older. If this is you, come along to the event, have a bite to eat and see how we might be able to help you.”
Tickets are free and can be registered at this link.
Tecs Barker, operations manager at Carr Gomm, said: “As well as providing guidance and information, this event gives people the opportunity to meet other carers. It can mean so much for somebody just to hear the words ‘I know what you mean!’”.
