Plans have been lodged which would see the existing Co-op store in Invergordon High Street replaced with another set to open in summer of 2020.

PLANS to open a new supermarket in the heart of an Easter Ross town have been revealed.

The Co-op wants to serve up its newest food store in Invergordon with a £650,000 investment.

The new store, located on High Street, is due to open next summer and would replace the existing Co-op which is nearby.

The company says the new store, planned for 110 High Street on a site formerly occupied by ATS, will offer a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables, healthy foods, ready-to-go hot food, alcohol and essentials along with an in-store bakery plus a car park.

Ian Mason, regional acquisitions manager for the Co-op, said: “The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum, and our ambition is to ensure the store is a local hub for people living in the area.

"We also want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op. Our members make a difference locally and simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us, they are raising much needed funding for organisations who contribute to improving local life."

The firm said it was too early to say what would happen to its existing store when the new one opens.

The plans have been tabled with Highland Council.
