Sunflower challenge aims to raise spirits in Ross-shire village during Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown

GREEN-fingered residents living in a Ross village are being encouraged to take part in a sunflower growing challenge – to raise a smile and lift spirits during the lockdown.

Contin Community Council has been leaving sunflower plants around the village for people to take and plant in their garden.

The idea is that they will bring a splash of colour to the village while also providing a boost to spirits as people watch them grow.

There will be prizes for the best.

A spokesman for the community council said: "To bring some colour and fun to the Contin area, we're leaving sunflower plants around the village for people to take, plant out in your garden, and watch them grow!

"Please share your photos on the Contin Community Council Facebook page. There will be prizes for the tallest plant & best pictures later in the summer. Have fun!"

Boxes containing the sunflowers can be found near the farm/Coul Farm track, outside the village shop, at 10 Woodland Park and near 3 Tor View. People can help themselves to some of the seedlings.

People are being encouraged to share their photos of their growing sunflowers on the Contin Community Council Facebook page.
