STRIKE UPDATE: Bins not collected in 18 communities across Ross-shire is still the worst affected area as the impact of walkout by waste, street cleaning and recycling centre staff begins to bite

Ross-shire is the worst hit area by strike action as waste, street cleaning and recycling centre staff enter the second day of a proposed eight day walkout.
Earlier this week Highland Council urged households and businesses to continue putting their bins out.
The local authority's difficulty predicting in advance what areas will be affected – something dependent on which union strikers belong to – means there is a chance bins will be emptied.

The council stated on its website: "This is part of national action being carried out at local authorities across Scotland.
"We are aware of the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding during this period."
Before adding: "If your bin has not been emptied, do not put it out again until your next scheduled collection day as we will not have the resource to catch up in between."

Refuse and recycling collections for household and business waste will not take place today in these areas:
- Balintore
- Hilton
- Shandwick
- Beauly
- Conon Bridge,
- Achterneed
- Fodderty
- Contin
- Letters
- Logie
- Lechmelm
- Lochcarron
- Maryburgh
- Muir of Ord
- Strathcarron
- Strathpeffer
- Tain
- Ullapool
Garden waste collections will not take place today in the following area
- Invergordon
Household Waste Recycling Centres closed today
- Alness
- Ullapool
Business waste collections will not take place in the following areas
- Balintore
- Hilton
- Tain
Street cleansing services (including litter bin emptying) not taking place today in the following areas
- Alness
- Black Isle
- Garve
- Inverness
- Muir of Ord
- Strathpeffer
Bulky Collections not being collected today in:
- Ross and Cromarty
All other services are operating as usual
