The Sitooterie Wildlife Viewing Garden was hammered by huge waves which toppled planters and drifted benches at one end of the garden.

But following Storm Brendan in 2020, much of the 206 metre garden was storm reinforced, and so survived the waves pounding the garden plants and pathway. Only two big tubs of flowering daffodils were affected, unfortunately, both totally flattened by crashing waves.

Gairloch Sitooterie co–ordinator David Carruthers said that it was a scene of utter devastation when he managed to get there an hour after high tide, with seaweed and plastic waste everywhere.

He said: "The garden has stayed incredibly resilient to the tidal surge. The Sitooterie's sea defences defended the vulnerable parts of the garden. The flattened daffies will definitely bounce back next year".
