A section of the A82 south of Loch Ness was closed in both directions on Wednesday afternoon after Storm Gerrit brought down more trees.

The trunk road was closed to all traffic between Fort Augustus and Invergarry shortly before 4pm.

It follows an earlier closure north of Fort William on Wednesday which was also the result of fallen trees.

At the time of writing Bear Scotland – which maintains the trunk road – was advising that the stretch between Fort William and Spean Bridge was still affected.

Meanwhile, this latest tree fall south of Fort Augustus has blocked the road in both directions, and Bear said its "teams are continuing to clear the area as quickly as possible".

The A82 was one of numerous routes affected by Storm Gerrit on Wednesday, with the strong winds, heavy upland snow and flooding causing widespread chaos.

The A9 was closed in two locations as a result of flooding – Ballinluig to Dunkeld – and heavy snows – Dalnaspidal – on Wednesday.

Trains, ferries and even some flights were also badly affected, as too were power supplies - with more than 10,000 homes dotted across the north affected by cuts to their electricity as a result of the storm.

And Ross County's trip to face Rangers was cancelled due to safety concerns over travel on the A9.
